One of my best tips on how to organize your day, so that when your feet hit the floor you know EXACTLY what needs to get done and then you don't waste hours in the morning, is to make your 6 most important things to do list the night BEFORE!
At 9PM I sit down with my smart phone and start entering everything that needs to be done the next day into an app ( I like the "Errands" app on iPhone, it has the same effect as a checklist). I have two 6 most important lists, one for business and one for home, this keeps all projects separate. After I write everything down I assess whether that activity is really a necessary thing to get done the next day or if I can roll over to the following day. I then look at what tasks can be delegated, which tasks can my husband or children help with or someone that I've paid (maid or assistant). Delegate is a hard word for moms, but it will make being a "super mom" a whole lot easier if you have a sidekick. This system has served me well in the last 10 years and it's invaluable to me in running a smooth business and home life. I'm a morning person, so the list gives me a blueprint of what I can get started on first thing in the morning. If you're not a morning person, it does all the thinking for you and you don't have to wonder what you need to get done or where to start. You can be in a morning fog and still get things done, which is a perk, right? Try it for a week and see, how just simply planning for your day the night before, can add hours to your day and a sense of accomplishment.
Got get them, ladies!'
